WeatherWorks
In the summer of 2024, I gained experience interning for WeatherWorks, a weather consulting firm specializing in snow and ice clients. I enhanced my meteorological background by learning and studying data from upper air, mid-level and surface observations. I practiced using software such as BUFKIT, GR2 Analyst and WeatherWorks proprietary products. Most importantly, I was educated about company procedures for serving clients. I also prepared detailed forecasts for my supervisor’s review. Several times, I sent out afternoon updates to company clients located at ports in Maryland and New Jersey as well as practiced entering sample snowfall totals and narratives for past snowstorms using the company flagship product: Certified Snowfall Totals (CST). My internship culminated in a project comparing two lake effect snowfall cases in the Chicago area. Using knowledge acquired from the internship, I successfully analyzed why one event produced more significant snowfall than the other along Lake Michigan using synoptic meteorology reasoning.
